Toad Woman/baskets is the first  of 8 Nomlaki stories.  In the Nomlaki tradition, stories are told as part of an activity such as making baskets, building a house or digging potatoes. Cody Pata and cousins lead the viewer through a landscape of ancient stories and living culture.

Every culture has traditions of storytelling. In the Nomlaqi world those stories are linked to certain events or times of the year.  Some stories are oral histories, recording and passing on events from the past to the present.
