Trailer for feature length documentary Nomlaqa Boda

Having begun my filmmaking career in the early 1970's with an Indian fishing rights documentary, this 2011 release was probably the most completely satisfying experience in a long association with Native Americans.

Growing up in Western Oregon I was told the Indians were "all gone." When I began to realize that was not true the way forward became a mission for me to correct that misunderstanding.

Nomlaqa Boda tells the familiar story of removal from Native lands and the people's eventual return and their resilience along the way. The film has played at festivals in the US and abroad, and is the history of record for the Paskenta Band of  Nomlaki Indians.  So much of their history was discovered in documents uncovered during the research process that the several hundred members began to understand their beginnings.
